Ask a person if he or she will go for natural wax candles compared to paraffin candles. Most people will probably say that natural wax candles would be their choice. After all, why go for other kinds of candles when there are those which are made from materials and ingredients that are natural and not synthetic and simply not harmful.

Now you may think that all natural wax that are used in making candles are the same. After all, they all look the same and they all serve the same purpose. You think that the only thing that makes the various types of natural waxes different from each other is the color. Like the beeswax which is a natural wax. It has a yellowish hue. But the color is simply not the only thing that makes each natural wax different from others.

Did you know that within each kind of natural wax, there are differences as well? Yes. That is true. Let us take for example the soy wax. There are different types of soy waxes. And each one has a different property which you have to understand if you believe that a career in natural waxes is what you want to be part of.

Experts in natural wax have said that the differences in the wax types is actually because of the other natural ingredients that are added to the main wax. For example, soy wax can be mixed with beeswax to get a unique texture that you can only get from mixing these two natural waxes.
There are natural waxes which can only be used when making container candles. See, these natural waxes are too soft to be used in making other candles that can stand on their own. They melt too soon and will work best if put in a container. If not, you will probably be scratching your head asking why that natural wax candle melted too soon than what you expected it to be.

And then there are those natural waxes which are best used if you are thinking of creating scented candles. These waxes blend well with the essential oils and the end product is a wonderfully scented candle that does not have impurities.

With that in mind, you can now start doing your studies on the various natural wax types available in the market. You may opt to try creating beeswax candles or maybe natural wax candles which have been mixed with aromatherapy essential oils. What is important though is that you know just what type to use so as not to make a candle disaster.

The Benefits of Scented Soy Candles With a Coffee Fragrance http://www.candle-stix.com/?p=13 http://www.candle-stix.com/?p=13#comments Fri, 08 May 2009 08:53:54 +0000 http://www.candle-stix.com/?p=13

The Benefits of Coffee Fragrance

I ran across a very interesting article in “Popular Science” speaking about the benefits of smelling the aroma of coffee. It is a well know fact that the coffee bean contains stimulants which speed up your bodies metabolism and thereby gives you that additional boost of energy. But, scientists are now also studying the effects of the mere aroma of coffee and have made some interesting discoveries. If you really don’t care for drinking coffee you can still reap some of the same benefits. The aroma of coffee has been found to aid with sleep deprivation, exhaustion, and helps to reduce stress.

Light a Coffee Scented Candle and Reap the Benefits

By lighting a coffee scented soy candle you can enjoy the same benefits of that rich and robust coffee aroma and never brew a pot of coffee or have to drink it. By simply lighting one of these aromatic scented jar candles you can perk up your senses and keep yourself motivated throughout your busy day. By combining other scents with the wonderful aroma of coffee you can also affect your emotions and moods.

You can add the eye opening scents of orange or rich spices to really give the coffee aroma that additional motivational “kick”; or you can add the sweet mellow tones of vanilla, caramel, or hazelnut to add to that warm comforting fragrance. The fragrance of coffee is the most recognizable, comforting, and warm fragrance and with the use of scented jar candles in the wonderful coffee fragrances is one that everyone, including non-coffee drinkers, can enjoy.

How to Make Soy Candles in 9 Easy Steps http://www.candle-stix.com/?p=14 http://www.candle-stix.com/?p=14#comments Fri, 01 May 2009 08:55:34 +0000 http://www.candle-stix.com/?p=14

Here are the nine basic steps to making soy candles. Following each step will allow you to create quality soy candles.

First Step – Measuring Your Wax

The first step in making soy candles is deciding what type of candle to create. The reason for this is because the soy wax has to be carefully measured out according to the type of candle and the number of candles that are being made. For demonstration purposes we will be making votive candles. These candles require around two ounces of soy wax per candle. Work with even measurements whenever possible. If we were to make eight votive candles we would need about one pound of soy wax.

Second Step – Melt Your Wax

The next step in making soy candles is to melt the soy wax. You can purchase a wax melter for around $20 from your local department store or use a double boiler to melt your wax. Using a double boiler works well but it is a little slower for melting your wax. You must never melt wax directly on the stove as there is a risk where the wax will burst into flames.

Third Step – Adding Color

The third step in how to make soy candles is to add color to your candles. You can purchase and use candle dye and stir it into your melted wax. You may also use crayons to add color to your soy candles. You do not want to use food coloring as this will damage your soy candle.

Fourth Step – Adding A Fragrance

When adding fragrance to your candle wax you want to add about one and a half ounces of your fragrance for every pound of candle wax that you use. The temperature of the wax needs to be around 170 degrees so that the fragrance will bind with the wax properly. Stir the mixture for about two minutes or so before moving on to the next step.

Fifth Step – Reduce The Heat

The fifth step in how to make soy candles is to reduce the heat from 170 degrees to close to 150 degrees. You should also warm your candle molds so that they are slightly above room temperature. By doing this will allow the candles to release from their molds much easier.

Sixth Step – Pour Your Candle Wax Into Your Molds

When the wax is cooled to around 150 degrees you can then pour your wax into the molds. You can use a Pyrex measuring cup if you don’t have a pour pot. Make sure you fill each mold to the top.

Seventh Step – Add Your Wicks

Once you notice a thin layer of skin on the top of the mold it is time to add your wicks. Make sure your wicks are straight and push it all the way to the bottom of the mold. Take care to make sure that you keep it straight and centered.

Eighth Step – Smoothing Out The Imperfections

No matter how careful you were when you pressed the wick into the candle you probably created a slight depression in the skin. The only way you can smooth out this imperfection is to re-melt the wax. Be very careful that you don’t scorch the candle or wick.

Ninth Step: You Have Your Candles

You need to wait about 5 hours for the candles to set properly. Once the candles are set just give a little pull on the wick and the candle should pop right out of the mold.

These are very simple steps in how to make soy candles. Take your time and have some fun with your candle making hobby.

Why Use Scented Candles? http://www.candle-stix.com/?p=17 http://www.candle-stix.com/?p=17#comments Fri, 17 Apr 2009 08:57:58 +0000 http://www.candle-stix.com/?p=17

Candles, particularly scented candles, are one of the most popular items bought from local gift stores all over the country. There are many reasons why scented candles have remained popular throughout the years. Here are some of them.

First of all, scented candles are a treat for the senses. Candles are visually appealing accessories, and can liven up dull areas in the home. The candles come in different sizes and shapes; you’re sure to find one that will blend well with your space. Aside from aesthetics, they have the added advantage of being pleasant to the sense of smell, as well. They have the ability to bring back past memories and emotions. Scents that are related to seasons, such as pine or flowers, can even be used as a part of your decorations. The different fragrances can set the mood in a room, and can have positive effects on the people in the area.

In order to give these candles their fragrance, candle makers use either essential oils or synthetic fragrances. Although synthetic fragrances tend to be a lot cheaper, they are not able to provide the additional benefits that scented candles using essential oils can bring. These aromatherapy candles can be used to calm you down, clear your mind or boost your energy levels up. They can induce a variety of feelings, such as peace, happiness, relaxation and rejuvenation, to name a few.

Another reason why they are so popular is because they are widely available, and best of all, affordable. Also, they are ideal gifts because they can be used by anybody. If you’re crafty, you may even want to try making them on your own! Aside from these, they can also be used for other purposes, such as fund-raising events and as a profitable, practical business venture.

Scented candles are available in a wide assortment of shapes, sizes, styles and scents. Some of them even offer a mixture of fragrances, making them even more unique and pleasant. When choosing which ones to buy, go for the scented candles using essential oils. Aromatherapy candles usually have a more subtle scent than candles using synthetic fragrances, but can produce a positive effect on your mind and body. Also, choose ones with minimal additives and other such chemicals, as these can be harmful to the environment. Choosing natural candles is not only good for you, but for your surroundings, as well.

Coming Together with Unity Candles http://www.candle-stix.com/?p=19 http://www.candle-stix.com/?p=19#comments Fri, 10 Apr 2009 08:59:09 +0000 http://www.candle-stix.com/?p=19

Unity Candles have come to signify, in many ceremonies and religions, as the culmination of two families. Generally, unity candles are made up of three individual candles. The first two are tapers, which signify the bride and the groom. Each lights their respective taper candle, then combine the two at once to light the third pillar candle, which is joining the unity of the two becoming one.

The unity candles come in a variety of different designs and colors. Many will come with special phrases, words, or engravings that hold a special meaning for the couple. After the lighting of the unity candles, the bride and groom will typically place them in their home as a reminder of their special day, their love, and their commitment. These can be designed with a special poem, the name of the bride and groom, the date, time, and location of the wedding, or any wording desired.

You have many choices when it comes to unity candles. For example, you can find unity candles that come in smokeless and dripless wax. This is a choice for many couples, as it allows the candle to remain intact, little cleanup, and a great ornamental piece for their home.

Engraved oil unity candles are also becoming very popular. The oil is usually contained within glass and provides for easy lighting and there is very little clean up or smoke involved.

For those looking to add some unique touches to their wedding, sand instead of flames might be a great choice. Instead of lighting candles, the couple would mix two different colors of sand into one vial, which stands for mixing their lives together.

When it comes to unity candles, the best thing to do is look for sets. Buying the unity candles in a set allows you to ensure that you have everything you need, as well as matching pieces. In sets, the unity candles will include candle stands, one pillar candle, and two tapers.

For a real personalized and unique addition to your wedding, consider designing and creating your own unity candles. There are many resources on the internet and in bookstores that can guide you in creating your own candles for your special day.

You can find more ideals that will help you with relieving stress from your wedding day Go to Wedding Favors or she could go to Wedding Gifts To get some great ideals for your wedding like a flagon for the spruce or a Money clip with his name impressed on the front. If you ought ideals for your rare Wedding Accessories go to My marriage

Intamacy, Relaxation, Romance – The Power of Candles http://www.candle-stix.com/?p=21 http://www.candle-stix.com/?p=21#comments Fri, 03 Apr 2009 08:59:59 +0000 http://www.candle-stix.com/?p=21

Despite all of the innovative lighting methods manufactures have dreamed up over the last fifty years and all of the weird and wonderful lighting options available to us today, nothing beats the humble candle for intimacy, relaxation or romance. Maybe it is something primal and instinctive in us- fire has been part of man’s survival since the dawn of the species- but the flicker of a flame really does captivate and calm the soul. With canny manufactures realizing this, candles are now big business in the interior design industry- there is literally a candle for every occasion and you can pick them up anywhere from the local garage to designer department stores.

Most people choose to buy tapers, the long slender candles we usually see in candle holders when we lay out special china for an intimate dinner. These usually are about twelve inches long, but can be shorter, from six to ten inches. You can also buy fifteen inch tapers. These candles will fit in any standard candle holder and come in a variety of colours and scents. Generally made simply of paraffin, they also can be infused with various things to give of a beautiful scent as they burn. Depending on the scent they can enliven the spirits- as in the case of lemon or ginger, or alternatively they can be used to soothe and relax- lavender being the best example. Grouping tapers of different heights together is the best way to get the most decorative effect from them.

Another popular candle shape is the tea light. These are smaller disc shaped candles. They are about two to three inches tall and about two inches in diameter. These candles were first used in churches as individuals offered up prayers. They have now found their way into our homes for decorative use. They also can be scented and come in many colours. Whilst less decorative, they are less likely to be knocked over, making them safer to use. Choosing your favourite aroma and lighting a group of tea lights over a hot bath is by far the best way to put tea candles to use.

The third and by far the most impressive type of candle commonly used in homes today is the pillar candle. Much larger and thicker than a normal candle, they come in various shapes and can be cylindrical, rectangular, or square. These candles range from three inches in diameter to a foot across, and can be three to twelve inches tall. These candles also can be decorated or inscribed with designs. Pillar candles are often used in weddings for the candle ceremony. These candles can also be elaborate works of art. Pillar candles can come in many colours and scents. Unsurprisingly they can be much pricier and should therefore be restricted in their use- a centrepiece on a mantle or formally set table being the best uses.

Remember to be safe when using candles. Keep them well away from free flowing fabrics such as curtains and always allow candle holders enough time to cool before handling them.

Terrys Fabrics retail in curtains and fabric.

How to Make Candles in a Variety of Designs http://www.candle-stix.com/?p=22 http://www.candle-stix.com/?p=22#comments Fri, 27 Mar 2009 08:01:23 +0000 http://www.candle-stix.com/?p=22

Now that you know how to make candles, you have to make it stand out. To make your candle unique, you must learn ways to design it. For those who want to learn how to make candles with different designs, there are several things you can use: stamps, stencils and wax.

STAMPS

Using a stamp is actually an easy and effective way to decorate your candles. Just about any kind of stamp can be used, with any design. All you have to do is apply paint onto the surface of the stamp and stamp away! It is important that you don’t put on too much paint on the stamp, or else the design might get smudged. If you make a mistake with the stamp, you can easily wipe the paint off the candle, as long as the paint hasn’t dried yet.

It would also be a good idea to first practice stamping on some regular paper before you actually stamp on the candle, so you get an idea of how hard you have to press the stamp. Also, remember that a candle is usually round; thus, when applying the stamp, roll the stamp onto the candle surface, following the contour of the candle.

STENCILS

Many people favor the use of stencils in designing candles because stencils tend to produce more professional-looking designs. There are stencils available from arts and crafts stores that you can use, but make sure that you pick flexible ones that you can wrap around the surface of your candle. You can also make your own designs and cut it out.

Once the stencil is placed snugly around the candle, you can use acrylic paint, spray paint or stencil paint to fill in the design. Carefully paint the sections that have been cut out. Let the paint dry out a little before gently removing the stencil outline from the candle. If you make a mistake, you can remove the excess paint by scraping the candle wax little by little. When you have finished filling in the stencil, you can now add some fine details into the design, such as other colors or elements.

WAX

Since you already know how to make candles, using wax to design your candles will be quite easy for you. Use candy molds or cookie cutters to create the designs. Just as with candle making, melt the wax until it becomes liquid, after which, you pour it into the mold. Let the wax cool and harden. When it is ready, take the shapes out of the mold. Paint some melted wax onto the back of the shapes you have created, and press them onto the candles. Use a hair dryer to help the shapes curve around the surface of the candle. Let it dry for about 24 hours. Finally, you can add some embellishments to make the design really different.

If you know how to make candles with different designs, you can make special, one-of-a-kind crafts!

Different scents can influence you in different ways. The right scent can relax your body and improve your mood. Meanwhile, scents that are too strong can become overpowering and can produce negative effects.

A practical, economical way to surround yourself with the right scents is to use scented candles. Beeswax Candles in Various Designs http://www.candle-stix.com/?p=26 http://www.candle-stix.com/?p=26#comments Fri, 13 Mar 2009 08:05:40 +0000 http://www.candle-stix.com/?p=26

The market can be ruthless. It does not matter just what industry you are in. As long as there is competition, you will never be able to estimate just how much share you will have for a certain period. After all, people’s minds do change. And people love to go with something that they think they have a good deal.

Though the candle making industry is not as high profiled as the car industry or maybe even the computer industry, candle makers sure do have a competition against each other. Each candle maker has to make sure that their products are being bought by the consumers. They have to make sure that they get a huge chunk of the market so as to be able to survive and make profit good enough to continue on to the next months or years. And to be able to be above all the rest, candle makers make sure that they have something different to offer – something that other candle makers do not have and something that the competition has not yet thought about.

One of the best gimmicks that you can see in the beeswax candles market right now is the shape and size of the candles that are being sold. However, one of the most interesting beeswax candles that you can find are those that come in various shapes. That has certainly made more consumers look twice and spend more time looking at the designs. Since the designs of the beeswax candles are not just your usual candle styles, consumers are attracted to them just like bees are to honey.

There are various designs of beeswax candles that are offered in the market. There are those which have been shaped to look like honeycombs. There are small ones and there are huge ones depending on what size of that honeycomb beeswax candle you want to take home. And then there are those made to look like honey pots, bees, cakes, pillars, birds, and flowers. Those are just a few and you can most certainly imagine other styles that candle makers have given their beeswax candles.

Beeswax candles, no matter what the size, shape, or design are natural candles and make really good aromatherapy candles. They do not need to be mixed with essential oils because they already have their own unique scent which can be a pretty good smell for your nose.
